2019年期待の新人リスト＜Sound Of 2019＞、第4位発表
英国の公共放送BBCが毎年発表している、その年ブレイクが期待される新人リスト＜Sound Of …＞の2019年度の4位が、火曜日（1月8日）発表された。
スペインの女性シンガー・ソングライターRosalia（5位）に次ぎ、名が挙がったのは、英国ノーサンプトン出身の24歳のラッパー、slowthaiだった。
子供のとき、ゆっくり（スロウに）話すことからついたニックネームを芸名にした彼は、これまでにEP2枚『I WISH I KNEW ノノ』（2017年）、『Runt』（2018年）をリリース。エネルギッシュなライブと、階級や失業の問題、疎外感、絶望などを取り上げた歌詞でファン層を築いてきた。
＜Sound Of 2019＞の1人に選ばれたことについて、slowthaiは「クレイジーだ。子供のときずっとBBCラジオに興味を持ってた。だから、こうして認められるのは有難い」と、コメントしている。

＜Sound Of 2019＞にはRosalia（5位）、slowthai（4位）ほか、Grace Carter、Flohio、Dermot Kennedy、King Princess、Mahalia、Ella Mai、Octavian、Sea Girlsが候補に挙がっており、今週水曜日（9日）に3位、木曜日（10日）に2位、金曜日（11日）に1位が発表される。
